Green Chef is one of the best meal kits and delivery services I’ve tried over the past four years, but I wanted to dive deeper to give you an up close and personal look at the box, the recipes, and most importantly, food served. from the Green Chef team.

The traditional meal kit service sends fresh, measured and prepared ingredients to your door, delivered at a weekly rate depending on your subscription.
Choose from a rotating weekly menu, with options to mix and match vegan, vegetarian, keto, paleo, gluten-free and more.
This meal kit is not just for super healthy people, as the taste of the meals is worth the kit alone, as well as the ease of cooking, the freshness of the ingredients and no need to go to the grocery store. The kit is great for those who like to cut and slice, as many of the recipes involve a good amount of cooking, but nothing more complex than dicing or sautéing.

Green Chef is pretty average when it comes to pricing, compared to other meal kits.
Every meal, no matter how much you order or how many portions, comes to $11.99 per serving.
You can choose meals that serve two or four people, with a frequency of three or four meals per week. Shipping costs a flat fee of $9.99.
Green Chef Foods
Yes, Green Chef’s meals are focused on health, but they are also much more than that.
The produce is always fresh and they pride themselves on using only organic produce, cage free eggs, antibiotic and hormone free chicken and sustainably sourced seafood in every recipe.
They offer a variety of different meal options, including Mediterranean, keto, protein-packed, calorie-smart, plant-based, quick and easy, gluten-free, and even ones focused on gut and brain health. These can also be viewed in the weekly menu, or when registering for your account.
Our Green Chef Review:
The pros:
- Great for those with allergies at home, as the cards show the allergens in each ingredient in the basket
- Super fresh tasting fish that comes on ice in a box
- Each meal takes six steps to complete, usually less than 35 minutes, perfect for quick lunches and dinners
- Organic, cage-free, antibiotic-free, and hormone-free animal products and products
- Easy to follow instructions and packaging
Disadvantages:
- No longer durable, as many items are individually wrapped in plastic or paper.
I really love traditional meal kits like these. When I say traditional, I mean an easy-to-use weekly menu with options, pre-portioned bags of ingredients, and a great recipe that delivers exactly what it says it will. Green Chef is all of the above.
For my weekly meals, I wanted to choose a variety, choosing a few things outside of my dietary comfort zone, like Moroccan-Style Vegan Green Peas, as well as a comforting Creamy Italian Pork Soup and a satisfying Shrimp and Steak , but healthy. Salad with Schug Dressing from their premium selections from Chef Select. The menu has options for a variety of preferences, such as vegetarian, vegan, keto and more, making it more fun than just eating vegetables and calling it “healthy.”
The recipe cards were as easy to follow as ever, with photos every step of the way, as well as bullet points showing each ingredient. All you need is to make sure you have pots and pans ready, in addition to cooking oil, salt and pepper for most meals.
Since the green chef limits trips to the grocery store, I was able to devote that time to cooking. While it doesn’t take a lot of time, I’d say each meal took an average of 30 to 45 minutes to prepare and fully cook, so I’d still go through a normal dinner. That said, keep the estimated cooking time in each recipe in mind if you’re choosing meals for a busier day.
For 2024, I saw many of my favorite meals again, but also the addition of more lunch and snack options. I chose a Greek salad as part of their line of 15-Minute Lunches and sure enough, it took exactly 15 minutes to cook and yielded way more salad than I could eat on my own – hoorah for leftovers!
Final decision:
At the end of the day, Green Chef is a great option for fresh looking and tasting ingredients, creative recipes and unique flavors that are made to delight your taste buds. I even learned a few new tricks in the kitchen from these recipes, helping me step up my cooking game even after the subscription ended – Who knew I’d love green pea falafel fries so much?!
This is a kit for those who want to enjoy their weekly cooking, incorporating more organic, healthy ingredients and new skills into their lives.
How we tested it
- Ease of ordering: When looking at the menu, Green Chef is simple to set up and order for each week. I always consider how to customize the order, make changes and stop a membership during testing.
- Preparation, cooking and cleaning time: A major selling point of meal kits is that they save time. Green Chef takes between 15 and 45 minutes per meal, sticking very closely to what the recipe calls for. I still noticed how long it took me to eat a full meal from packaging to cooking, eating and recycling afterwards.
- Taste and fullness: Meal kits are meant to take all the guesswork out of cooking, including seasonings. While testing the green chef, I considered whether any of the dishes I ordered needed to be seasoned or changed to make them more palatable. I also thought how satisfied they left me and for how long.
- Durability: Not all meal kits are eco-friendly or use sustainable practices. To determine where Green Chef stood on the eco-conscious scale, I reviewed its manufacturing policy and looked at how it sourced its ingredients. Other things I considered were its packaging and whether it could be recycled.
- Price: Meal kits typically cost between $7 and $15 per serving, and so Green Chef sits in the middle at $11.99 per serving. I also consider how many meals per week and how many portions you get for the price.
